Subclass 188C (Ext): Extension Visa
Transitioning from a provisional Subclass 188 visa to a permanent Subclass 888 visa may not always be smooth. One of the usual reasons is that the relevant criteria are not met by the near-expiry of the Subclass 188 visa in which an extension may be sought up to 2 years.
In the significant investor stream, an extension may be granted twice allowing the visa holder to stay in Australia for up to 8 years from the date of the initial visa grant. The extensions are merely temporary measures, and failure to satisfy the requirements of the grant of a Subclass 888C visa by the end of the extended period would jeopardize the prospect of receiving permanent residency.
The primary visa holder must have held a Subclass 188C visa for at least 3 years to be eligible to apply for the extension.
No age requirement applies, and the visa holders may be older than 55 years old when applying for the extension.
Continuing the Complying Significant Investment
The visa holders must continue to hold the complying significant investment in a sum more than $5,000,000 and in compliance with the investment framework stipulated at the initial visa grant.
The visa holders must continue to be nominated by the State or Territory government authority or Austrade.
